This exhibition is an interactive, hands-on exploration into the history of Maitland and its surrounding areas! There were a lot of things that did not happen in Maitland. There were no great battles fought on the soil, nor was it home to any infamous individuals. The town was not the epicenter of any great social movements, nor was it home to discoveries that would better humankind. Maitland was, and continues to be, a small town, like so many others.The story of Maitland is a story of seemingly ordinary people who lived through extraordinary times, a place where people made their homes while dramatic events unfolded in other parts of the world. People labored here, raised their families, loved, lost, thought, and created. The objects in the museum's collection reflect the brightness of these lives against the backdrop of a changing and often troubled world.Each artifact tells a story specific to a place and time. They are the carriers of the memories of the people who owned them, who felt that they were important enough to their own story to preserve them. Many of them are the prototypes of the objects that we use and hold dear today, objects which will one day carry our own memories forward.Welcome to Maitland's Attic, a gathering place of the unique items that tell of Maitland's past. About the Exhibition Mär Martinez, a Syrian American artist and Fulbright scholar, presents new work developed during her 2024–25 Fulbright research in Istanbul. Her project investigates traditional Turkish and Middle Eastern textile techniques while reflecting on themes of urbanization, surveillance, and cultural memory. Drawing from nighttime walks through Istanbul's neighborhoods, Martinez transforms architectural barriers, barbed wire, fences, and centuries old textile patterns, into motifs of both resistance and resilience. Her haunting paintings explore personal heritage, global textile history, and contemporary social commentary in poetic, layered form. The initial threads of this, her first solo museum exhibition, created in Istanbul and New York, began at the Art & History Museums of Maitland during her 2021–2023 Studio Artist Residency. Just as native flowers create pollinator pathways through gardens and neighborhoods, the Florida Wildlife Corridor links forests, wetlands, ranches, and public lands into a living network that allows species like the Florida panther and Florida black bear to move safely across the state. This connected system protects wildlife, safeguards drinking water, supports working lands, and sustains the natural heritage that defines Florida. How does the Florida Wildlife Corridor Foundation, whose mission is to champion a collaborative campaign to permanently protect, connect, and restore the Florida Wildlife Corridor, continue to keep the energy high and the focus on the prize amid a plethora of challenges and how can you be involved? Mason Gravley grew up right in the middle of the swamps, orange groves, and cattle ranches of Frostproof, Florida. His love of the outdoors budded through early hunting and fishing trips and has evolved into a love of paddling and exploring the most hidden waterways and camping spots of Floridaâs backcountry. After discovering a phenomenon called âelevationâ through extensive backpacking and bikepacking adventures in college and beyond, he settled down in the Sierra Nevada and Rocky mountains for nearly a decade before starting a family and returning back to Florida with a new perspective on landscape-scale conservation. Mason has a degree in general biology from Southeastern University in Florida and an MS in Marketing from Regis University in Denver and comes to the foundation from the startup world. Mind, Body and ColorFor 30 years, artists have connected with Orlando Health cancer patients through the Arts in Medicine program. Whether writing, dancing, or painting, patients take their minds off treatment and focus simply on creating. For many, this reconnects them with who they are—not simply a patient, but a person.Since 2013, the Arts in Medicine program has hosted an annual exhibition at City Arts Gallery, celebrating the creative works of patients at the Orlando Health Cancer Institute.This year's theme, "Mind, Body and Color" celebrates how creativity provides a wholistic approach to wellness. Each piece offers a glimpse into how patients use art to transform their personal challenges into expressions of wholeness, vitality, and the world they aspire to see.From May 21 through June 13, this inspiring exhibition will feature over 50 works created by cancer patients and their loved ones. Curated by Patricia Calderon, Continuum: A Gathering in Practice brings together current students and alumni of Osceola County School for the Arts at CityArts Orlando. As a founding member of OCSA's Visual Arts program, established in 2003, Calderon has worked across generations of artists whose practices continue to evolve beyond the institution. This exhibition extends that long arc into a shared public context, convening artists without collapsing their distinct trajectories. Several alumni featured in this exhibition are actively practicing artists whose work continues to evolve through sustained creative practice, exhibition, and independent inquiry.They are presented not as outcomes of a program, but as artists in their own right, whose practices continue to develop over time. At its core, Continuum considers practice as an ongoing, never-ending process. Creation is not presented as a fixed destination, but as a process of continuous becoming, where each iteration informs the next, and every act of making exists within a larger, unfolding progression. Across media and subject, the works resist a singular narrative, inviting viewers to reflect on creativity not as one final outcome, but as a living continuum of inquiry, transformation, and possibility. Continuum: A Gathering in Practice offers a space where artists meet across time, not as before and after, but within an ongoing field of practice. POSTER DESIGNER  Melody "Mel" Capielo is a 2007 alumna of Osceola County School of the Arts and a Creative Director with more than 15 years of experience spanning hospitality, food and beverage, local government, medtech, and academia. Her passion for graphic design began in the halls of OCSA in 2003, working alongside Mrs. Calderon and the school's small but mighty yearbook staff, where she first discovered the power of visual storytelling and creative collaboration.After spending four years on the yearbook staff, Mel set an ambitious early goal: to one day see her name featured in a magazine's masthead. It was a goal she accomplished within her first year of college, thanks in part to the strong design fundamentals she developed at OCSA, which helped her land her first professional design role. She later earned a BFA in Graphic Design from Miami International University of Art & Design in 2010.Since then, Mel has built a career developing brand identities, immersive experiences, and strategic visual communications across print and digital platforms, working with both startups and large organizations. Her approach combines concept development, art direction, and thoughtful design strategy, grounded in the same curiosity and creative discipline first sparked during her time at OCSA. Now based in Denver after relocating from Miami, she continues to bring creativity, leadership, and gratitude for the place where her design journey began.

This edible plant walk introduces participants to the rich diversity of Central Floridaâs native and wild-growing plants. Participants will learn about safe and ethical foraging practices. Participants will also learn to identify therapeutic species, edible plants, plants with cultural and ecological importance, and beneficial âweedsâ that thrive in our ecosystem. The experience is educational, inspiring, and accessible for beginners. We end the walk with a wildcrafted tea tasting made from ethically foraged plants. That is an Irish Ceili (pronounced kaylee), a folk art in which an emcee calls out the names of dances and the crowd performs the partner work arm-in-arm, and solo moves in circles and sways. Within this framework of many Irish dances, including the titular Eight-Hand Jig, we learn the history of the O'Malley family, both in Chicago 2036, and in Dublin 1701. The play switches swiftly from movement to dialogue, and each physical number moves the plot forward as we see past and future collide. Mel O'Malley has three B-eautiful children: Brigid, Bree, and enby Brenda. Of Irish heritage, Mel is constantly straddling the worlds between the motherland and her daughters' childhood home in the U.S. When all four family members gather for Bree's baby shower in 2036, a heartbreaking secret is revealed. The family's experiences parallel that of their Irish ancestors, accused of witchcraft. These O'Malley women, separated by generations, have been subject to the same pain and injustices of womanhood. Instructor: Ryan Price Location: Cottage at Lake Lily Cost: $60 + $10 material fees. Materials fees must be paid in cash directly to the instructor, and are due on the day of the workshop. Participants will be using household items to learn how to make lithography prints. Each participant will receive a sheet of aluminum foil mounted to a wooden board and a Sharpie to draw images on. Once students have finalized their image, they will use Coca-Cola to "etch" the plate, rinse with water, dry, and apply canola oil, then buff it into the place. They can begin the inking to the plate, run it through the press, or create a rubbing with a wooden spoon. This workshop will provide participants with an idea of how the process of lithography works with a low-stakes and low-cost approach. Each person leaves with a new skill and a print. Meanwhile, President Sly Cooper, a literal Raccoon, addresses the Danville, OH Raccoon Club after declaring martial law due to dubious election results. Facing an insurrection and a mole in their camp, Sly and her minions must find a way to bring their population to heel. Help with native habitat maintenance! This is the Tarflower Chapter: Florida Native Plant Society's monthly restoration volunteer morning. Plan to help weed, water and possibly install new plants. Our restoration project now includes three unique habitats: Sandhill, Xeric Hammock, and Scrubby Flatwood. Today (It's Not OK)A Special Exhibition by Parker SketchArt For All Spaces presents Today (It's Not OK), a powerful and timely exhibition by Orlando-based artist Parker Sketch, opening with a public reception on June 18th , 2026, in the Side Gallery at CityArts in downtown Orlando. The exhibition runs through July 11th , 2026. Rooted in painting and art historical awareness, Today (It's Not OK) reflects an emotional and political reckoning shaped by the turbulence of the present moment. The exhibition draws from abstraction and expressive mark-making while carrying a deeper conceptual weight—revealing works that appear visually inviting at first glance, yet speak directly to contemporary realities of chaos, oppression, and uncertainty. As novelist and cultural icon Toni Morrison stated:"All good art is political! There is none that isn't. And the ones that try hard not to be political are political by saying, 'We love the status quo.'" That philosophy resonates strongly throughout this exhibition. Reflecting on the work, Parker Sketch shares: "The past year has been challenging. World news and politics are depressing. Recently I have been avoiding conceptual art and pop art because working on these styles doesn't feel right for me in this moment in history. Most of my recent work has been abstract and expressive. While I was working on these pieces, I found that even though I was trying to avoid it, I was creating extremely personal and political work. At first glance, these pieces seem like pleasant abstracts, but they are speaking to today's world of chaos and oppression." About the ArtistParker Sketch earned his BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has built a multifaceted career grounded in painting, art history, and professional arts practice. His experience includes working in galleries, frame shops, museums, and fine-art fashion studios, where he has served as an artist, designer, and project manager. Now based in Orlando, Parker is a highly active figure in the local arts community. He exhibits regularly, curates exhibitions, and is a resident artist at FAVO, where he regularly hosts a monthly critique group for local artists.
